Bug Description

unity:
  Installed: 0.2.18-0ubuntu1~lucid1

mutter:
  Installed: 2.31.2-3ubuntu2~lucid1

At times I loss all input. It's like I have a fullscreen screenshot of my desktop.
I can move the mouse but can't click anything. The launcher or any focused application don't react to mouse over. Can't Alt-Tab or shift workspaces. I can go to console but htop didn't show any process hogging the CPU.
The problem usually resolves itself after a couple of minutes.

I can confirm this though the unresponsiveness is for less than a minute.

Just noticed that the problem only happens after the memory leak (bug 604777) makes quite a lot of swap in use. can you please check after the problem happens if the ram or swap usage show some odd numbers.

Well this problem was happening on lucid IIRC but I upgraded to
maverick and haven't really noticed it. But something is happening
with my swap. My disk starts churning and completely stalls my
netbook. I had to restart it at times. I don't use quicklists so much
so don't know if I'm getting hit by 604777. Last time it happened I
noticed that (using htop) I had something like 350Mb of 1 Gb RAM being
used but my swap was full.I had to reset the machine.
Other times swap and RAM are maybe half full but the computer still
stalls. It's all very strange.
I'm currently running with swappiness=0 to see if the problem occurs again.
