Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

It would be nicer if the places icons would highlight on mouseover or give some indications that they are selected

These icons are currently at full brightness. Looking at the design I suggest we reduce the opacity of the icon/icons by 20% so there is some contrast on mouseover/selection

Reducing the full brightness is achievable. Getting the icons below the mouse to be brighter is also achievable.

I think the current brightness is cool and relaxed. I would rather look
at upping the brightness of the mouseover highlight than dropping the
brightness of the normal case.

Hi Mark, if the icon is white this wouldn't work though.

I think Jay actually means increasing the amount/intensity of glow around the icons - they are currently white so the solid areas can't get any brighter. Mark, we'll look at this as a possible solution first, it would be a shame to have to dull things down.
