Here are instructions to reproduce this:

1. Start Banshee: the label in the gnome-shell "notification area" (at the bottom right of the screen), should read "Banshee".
2. Now play a tune, minimize it and click on fast forward/next key on the keyboard to get to the next tune (or wait for it): the you should see the regular gnome-shell notification announcing the tune, at the bottom centre, and, if you get to the notification area, the label for the Banshee icon should read "notifcation-sharp".

As it may be an upstream bug, I have reported it here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=656533

When you click on the Notify-Sharp icon it brings up a new Banshee icon, and each of them have different right-click menus. I took 2 screenshots to demonstrate.

On Ubuntu Oneiric, please try installing the libnotify0.4-cil package from https://launchpad.net/~hyperair/+archive/staging/+packages, then restart Banshee and see if that solves the issue.

2.3 is an unstable version and will not be landing in oneiric-proposed.

Ah, I see the source of the confusion. Banshee has an internal notify-sharp copy that it does not use when we build it on Debian and Ubuntu. It instead uses the system notify-sharp, and hence will not be fixed by this upload. We'll need a new notify-sharp upload for that. I'm setting the Banshee task back to invalid.

Ok. The notify-sharp patch looks obviously-safe; otherwise, I'm not convinced this would qualify for an SRU.

Works for me based on dbus-monitor output. "Banshee" is sent instead of "notify-sharp" in the org.freedesktop.Notifications.Notify call.
