For ipod nanos, you should be able to select which playlists you want sync'ed. The entire music library doesn't fit on these devices. If you manage this manually, it doesn't copy the playlists, only the songs. And it should warn you that you don't have enough room on the device for the entire library and have that option be greyed out.

The ipod manage window should have
Music Library
     Sync Music Library
x Sync Only these Playlists
       x playlist 1
              playlist 2
       x playlist 3

Songbird has this. This is the only reason I'm using songbird still.

This is a must have indeed! I was really surprised there is no way to specify what to sync as there is not enough Gb's on the iPod to sync the whole collection.

This should be implemented as described by Lu Timdale above.

Is this bug really fixed? I could not find how to auto-sync a single playlist with an iPod Nano instead of the entire music library. I'm using Banshee 1.6 Beta 2 (1.5.1) as shipped in Ubuntu 9.10.

Michael Rooney (mrooney) wrote :

Yeah, this doesn't seem to actually be implemented. I'm using the Banshee daily PPA in Ubuntu 9.10. I think the upstream bug link is wrong, that bug is about being able to drag playlists onto devices, but this bug is about keeping a playlist in sync with a device.

@Michael, It's true that the upstream link is wrong; the correct bug is bgo: 408204. I'll try to fix the upstream link, but if that doesn't work, it's worth mentioning that this issue was fixed in the master branch about a week ago.

This is not really fixed. You can now sync one playlist, but not multiple. Those playlists don't show up as playlists on the ipod. The "fix" is a step forward, but I want playlists on my ipod.

Lu, syncing a device to a playlist and adding playlists to a device are separate issues. See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=551604 for more information on the bug you're interested in.

Lu, you can probably disregard my last comment ;) I see after reading your earlier post that you are hoping to sync a Nano to multiple playlists, which would very much be an extension of this bug... just like you said... :) You might want to run that by Banshee developers either in IRC or on the mailing list (or in a new report in Banshee's bugzilla). I don't know that there are any plans for this in the near future, but it probably wouldn't hurt to ask.
