Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Steps to reproduce the issue:

1) Open networkmanager
2) Add new Mobile Boradband connection
3) Choose Portugal, Kanguru

Result:
Plans "Default" and "Fixo" present.

Expected result:
Previous plans and "Recarregavel"

Reasoning:
Prepaid plans "Recarregavel Livre" and "Recarregavel Light" have a dynamic APN, so choosing any of the default plans makes the connection not work.
The connection works when you delete the APN (blank APN).

Question: is a blank APN equivalent to Dynamic APN? If so, then all there is to do is add the Plan as explained here.

Apparently the APN for normal kanguru as also changed. Using "myconnection" as APN does not work anymore and the only way to make it work is to leave it black.

Reassigning to the mobile-broadband-provider-info package, we still need to check whether upstream git already has a fix for this..

Testing with a live CD should be possible soon if the new m-b-p-i gets synced from Debian.

affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) → mobile-broadband-provider-info (Ubuntu)

Hey there!

afaik NM doesn't actually care about the DNS servers since they are obtained directly
from PPP at runtime but m not sure of the APN. and this is also present in latest upstream git

<country code="pt">

  <name>Kanguru</name>
  <gsm>

hello again

Quoting dan williams' comment from bugzilla

THere actually is no such thing as a "dynamic APN", this simply means to use
the APN settings stored in the phone itself. Unfortunately, those settings are
often wrong (especially if you have used more than one SIM card in the phone
previously, or bought the phone second-hand, or haven't used Optimus/Kanguru
with a specific phone or device before). So we need to figure out what the APN
really should be.

Best info I can find is:

http://androidpt.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=3&func=view&catid=71&id=46619&limit=10&limitstart=10

which lists 3 hopefully current APNs. Given those 3, what should we call them?

What do you think guys?

regards

New APNs for Kanguru:

For the pre-paid plan the APN is kanguru-tempo

The APN myconnection changed to kanguru-portatil

Please add this info to the providers list on the network-manager

Hugo

AFAICT, this is fixed in the Ubuntu package now, so I'll also mark the upstream bug task fixed. Please don't hesitate to open a new bug against the mobile-broadband-provider-info package in Ubuntu if you find that this is still wrong. Thanks!

In the latest version only the 3 APNs are provided that's true for private/common clients but for business clients the 'myconnection' *is still* mandatory !! Tested today...
