Bug Description

Binary package hint: serpentine

Serpentine won't start.

user@desktop:~$ serpentine
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/serpentine", line 109, in <module>
    assert path.isdir(locations.lib)
AssertionError

TEST CASE

1. Install package serpentine 0.9-5ubuntu4 from Jaunty.
2. Run "serpentine" in a terminal and see it crash with the error quoted above.
3. Update to 0.9-5ubuntu4.1 from jaunty-proposed.
4. Run "serpentine" again and see it start successfully (there's a bunch of Deprecation Warnings in the output, but those come from python-4suite-xml and other modules).

serpentine (0.9-6ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge with Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
     - debian/icons/, debian/rules:
        + Fixed missing icon for non-GNOME menus (LP: #159712).
     - debian/po/, debian/rules, debian/control:
        + Add translations from Rosetta (LP: #199897).
     - debian/control:
        + Make gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly a Recommends, not a Depends.
   * debian/rules:
     - Call dh_desktop, as we install a .desktop file with a Mime entry.
   * debian/patches/fix-lib-directory.patch:
     - Hardcode the correct directory to the "serpentine" module (which,
       by the way, should probably be private) (LP: #370421).

I'm attaching a debdiff with the minimum change needed to fix this, for SRU. I'll upload to -proposed as soon as I've finished test-building it.

I'm pleased to report that after installing serpentine 0.9-5ubuntu4.1 from jaunty-proposed, serpentine now starts correctly following the test case.
