Bug Description

Binary package hint: ffmpeg

Hi,

ffmpeg seems to be build without faac and xvid support. I'm not sure to see a valid reason (patents?) since mp3 and h264 support is already enabled (but I may miss something).

It would be worth including it in intrepid, as it would avoid users having to enable unofficial medibuntu repository for this.

The attached debdiff fixes this issue. Though these confflags are added when ffmpeg is built with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=externalcodecs, I did like the previous uploads (adding them manually above), but feel free to correct this. ;)

It builds/works fine here.

Thanks.

Will this fix be going in to the official packages?

Alex, as per previous comment it already is in the -unstripped variant of ffmpeg in Intrepid.

Ah, thank you. I did not realize they were separate packages.

How do I download the unstripped ffmpeg?

Install the packages libavcodec-unstripped-51, libavdevice-unstripped-52, libavformat-unstripped-52, libavutil-unstripped-49, libpostproc-unstripped-51, and libswscale-unstripped-0 -- or at least whichever of those you have the regular version installed currently. Intuitive, no?

Unfortunately, some packages depend on the regular versions.

Should these unstripped versions perhaps have a Provides: of the regular versions?

If a package doesn't depend on standard libs /or/ unstripped libs (e.g. libavcodec51 | libavcodec-unstripped-51), then this is probably a bug. Please report it against this package in Ubuntu, thanks.

Not, probably, it most certainly *is* a bug :). As said, please file bugs and we will fix them. In fact, I'll give you word as motu-sru that we'll fix em for Intrepid too :)

bug #289600 was already open for gpac. I've modified it to also apply to the other packages where this is a problem.
