Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

With the "indicator-application" patch, the current keyboard layout in the "Groups" menu is often wrong. I think it doesn't react to layout changes which are not made through that menu, i. e. from using the keyboard combination to switch layouts.

There seems to be an offset of 1 to the right layout, I will fix it.

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-settings-daemon - 2.29.91.1-0ubuntu4

---------------
gnome-settings-daemon (2.29.91.1-0ubuntu4) lucid; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/06_use_application_indicator.patch:
    - update by Jan Arne Petersen to undo the keyboard indicator change since
      the current indicator-application doesn't allow to use a label, which
      would be required to indicate the selected keyboard layout
      (lp: #531173, #531290, #531296)
  * debian/patches/90_autoreconf.patch:
    - refreshed for the previous change

Now that we have the indicator back in maverick, this bug is back as well. It needs to listen to keyboard changes the way the original g-s-d does.

Another test case is to change the layout with e. g. "setxkbmap de" or "setxkbmap us".

setting with setxkmap breaks the list entirely... This doesn't appear to be limited to just the app indicators

@Martin, I have a new patch on the way, which looks a lot better from my point of view, and it will hook up to external signals and therefore should work via the keyboard shortcuts. I'll upload this package to my ppa when I've finished building it.

While this has now been fixed (thanks!), now it is the list of keyboard layouts that does not get updated when switching trough a keyboard shortcut. I've filed bug 621633 for that.
