Bug Description

One of the update servers was down for the last 4 days, so automatic updates was not working properly.
The servers came up today so there was a bunch of updates.
Tried to install the updates, failed because two updates were attempting to change the same file.
I am now unable to run MythTV Backend Setup. I get the error message:
Failed to execute child process "mythtv-setup" (Permission denied).
I have not yet rebooted my computer to see if that helps.

A reboot did not help.
I am also unable to run the front end.
This update has destroyed my mythTV setup.
Help!

I think I'm back in business.
I found that the backend was running, and I could access it through mythweb.
I found that the two scripts:
  mythfrontend.sh
  mythtv-setup.sh
were not marked as executable. Once marked as executable, I no longer got the "permission denied" error, and can run both applications.

I was able to launch the apps as root... From Command prompt, sudo nautilus, then from there I went to the /usr/bin folder and found the mythtv files and clicked them from there...

Since I saw this worked.. I checked the properties of the files and noticed they all said root for owner and root for group. I changed them all to my user access as owner and the group to mythtv.

That has seemed to fix the issue so far...

I have also found that dialog_functions.sh was not marked as executable. I changed it to executable. Everything seems to work for me, including videos. Haven't tested everything yet, but so far so good.

dialog_functions.sh was also not executable on my system. I don't use mythTV for anything but time shifting, so I don't know if this was causing trouble.

Another update today, and those three files lost their executable bit again.

Thank you for helping to improve Mythbuntu by opening this ticket. I am marking this ticket as confirmed because it appears to have enough information to help the developers understand the problem. It is possible I am wrong and another more experienced triager or developer may adjust the status of the ticket to "incomplete" and request additional information.
