Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

1) This is on Karmic
2) Package: firefox: Installed: 3.6+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~mfs~karmic1

Steps to reproduce:
Start with a fresh profile, change the privacy settings as follows:
     History: Custom settings for History
Cookies: Keep until: <ask me every time>
    Open the Error console
Go to any site that requests a third party cooke (e.g http://washingtonpost.com)

Expected results:
Many cookies to approve/reject via the confirmation dialog
     Fully loaded page

Actual results:
The following message in the error console:
No chrome package registered for chrome://cookie/content/cookieAcceptDialog.xul
     Page never loads
Can no longer switch between tabs via the mouse. All other functionality appears to work
Cannot exit firefox normally; have to kill from the command line/broken application applet

A copy of Firefox 3.6 installed from the official tarball from mozilla.org does not do this.

os: lucid

I am getting the same problem; cookie confirmation dialog does not show, page never loads, cannot use the mouse to navigate to other firefox tabs. I can exit firefox normally.

I'm having the same problem, ever since upgrading to Firefox 3.6. Whenever a cookie dialog would normally appear, page loading stops and switching tabs with the mouse doesn't work anymore. Selecting 'Quit' from the File menu a couple of times makes things work again, although the cookie dialog never appears (maybe selecting 'Quit' closes the non-existent cookie dialog?).
Oh, I'm using lucid too.

For a quick fix, grab the Firefox 3.6 binary package from Mozilla and copy comm.jar and comm.manifest out of the chrome directory and toss it into /usr/lib/firefox-3.6/chrome/.

For whatever reason it seems to be missing, and that's the .jar cookieAcceptDialog.xul is in.

Yay, that fixed it :) Thanks!

To the developer people: this bug is also in the 3.6.2pre/Namoroka version in PPA.

This bug also affects Kubuntu 10.04 dist-upgraded to current. Symptoms include the inability to switch tabs, pages that never finish loading, and the inability to exit Firefox cleanly. And, of course, no cookie dialogs. :-)

The Firefox error console says: "No chrome package registered for chrome://cookie/content/cookieAcceptDialog.xul"

The Firefox 3.6 binary package from Mozilla does not have this problem.

Uhm, I just checked the build log of the latest version here on Launchpad, and it says the usr/lib/firefox-3.6/chrome/comm.* files are still missing..

Looking over the source diff, it seems that debian/rules is missing a reference to the two chrome/comm.* files.
