Bug Description

Here: https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/installation-guide/i386/preseed-contents.html#preseed-base-installer is told that one should use:

d-i base-installer/kernel/linux/initramfs-generators string yaird

but yaird is no valid initramfs-generator for ubuntu. The installation will abort with an error-message telling that no valid initramfs-generator has been choosen. yaird is (or has been) used by debian. In ubuntu we need initramfs-tools instead of yaird so the line should read:

d-i base-installer/kernel/linux/initramfs-generators string initramfs-tools

This works perfectly.

The same error is in the provided example-preseedfile: https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/installation-guide/example-preseed.txt and should be fixed there as well.

This bug was fixed in the package installation-guide - 20081208ubuntu6

---------------
installation-guide (20081208ubuntu6) lucid; urgency=low

  * Bump kernelversion to 2.6.32.
  * Bump x11ver to 7.5.
  * Bump GNOME version to 2.30.
  * Bump release version and names for Lucid (LP: #501572).
  * Remove comments about automatic installation methods that have been
    removed from Ubuntu (LP: #496554).
  * Remove documentation of
    base-installer/kernel/linux/initramfs-generators; setting this to
    anything other than the default will cause the installer to fail
    (LP: #415469).
  * Stop building for lpia.
