linux-virtual cannot be installed with an amd64 iso

Binary package hint: base-installer
When selecting "Install a minimal virtual machine" using an amd64 iso, the installed system is booted with a -generic kernel.
It seems that base-installer doesn't know about the -virtual flavor:
