Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-do

I'd like to get a feature freeze exception for GNOME Do 0.6 (+ plugins)

The 0.6 series will fix bug 204372.
There are a large number of useful features new in the 0.6 release, such as:
 * An actual configuration dialog
 * Plugin configuration, and easy selection of the active plugins
 * A text mode input for more easily entering long strings of text

Do is a relatively visible package, and these improvements are (in my opinion) fairly compelling. The 0.6 release also went through several release candidate releases, so I'm reasonably confident that it's free of showstopper bugs.

Note that this is the buildlog for the 0.6.0.0-1 debian package currently sitting in pkg-cli-apps svn. I hope to get that sponsored to Debian and synced to Intrepid, but I'll change the Ubuntuize the version and upload straight to Intrepid if that takes more than a couple of days.

Here's the diffstat. As usual, most of it is in autofoo files.

(Very boring) Install log:

Preparing to replace gnome-do 0.6.0.0-1 (using gnome-do_0.6.0.0-1_amd64.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement gnome-do ...
Setting up gnome-do (0.6.0.0-1) ...
Processing triggers for man-db ...

I've tested this extensively; Do has pretty much become my primary interface to the computer.

I couldn't find a changelog for the upstream project. If a changelog exists, please list the new changes from gnome-do 0.4.2 to 0.6.

Correction: there is no need to subscribe ubuntu-universe-sponsors, Chris Halse Rogers can upload to Intrepid as a member of the team.

I don't see an upstream changelog either, but upstream bzr commits can be browsed here:

https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~do-core/do/0.6

As a side note I have been using the Gnome-Do PPA packages (I believe also packaged by Chris Halse Rogers) with out issue.

For those eager to see Do 0.6 in intrepid, what this is missing is a build & install log & diffstat for gnome-do-plugins, which really needs to be uploaded at the same time. I'll get to that on the weekend, if not before.

Things tested for gnome-do-plugins:
* enabling each plugin without an internet connection
* Searching for files with the Locate plugin
* Searching google with the google search plugin
* Searching for launchpad bugs with the launchpad plugin
* Listing of Evolution contacts
* Browsing my Rhythmbox library with the rhythmbox plugin
* Calculating 28 euro in $AUD with the google calculator plugin

Here's the first part of the build-log; because this depends on gnome-do 0.6.0 I've logged into a chroot and installed gnome-do 0.6 and then run pbuilder-satisfydepends

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-do - 0.6.0.0-0ubuntu1

---------------
gnome-do (0.6.0.0-0ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * New upstream version, packaging based on the soon-to-be uploaded Debian
    package in pkg-cli-apps svn. FFe is LP: #267020
  * New upstream version fixes erratic positioning bug (LP: #204372)
  * debian/control
    + Update build-depends for new version
    + Update standards version to 3.8.0, adding README.Source
  * debian/gnome-do-autostart.desktop
  * debian/gnome-do.install
    + Delete our desktop file, install upstream's translated desktop file
      to /etc/xdg/autostart instead.
  * debian/gnome-do.preinst
    + Remove old autostart file on upgrade (if unmodified). Otherwise
      GNOME Do will appear twice in the autostart list.
  * debian/gnome-do.1
    + Manpage updated for new version
  * debian/rules:
    + Fix get-orig-source target to run properly from any directory; now should
    be policy compliant.
  * debian/copyright:
    + Refresh for new upstream version
    + Update to more recent CopyrightFormat proposal
