Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

In the top right corner of the KDE 4.0 desktop there is a "Zoom Out" button which is part of plasma's zooming interface feature. This feature is incomplete and just confusing right now. It was included in 4.0 so it would get some testing, but it shouldn't be in a Kubuntu release in its current state.

Thanks for your report.
Actually I think there is a possability that this feature gets removed by KDE itself, since it _is_ confusing and rather useless. If this does not happen, I will take care that it gets removed in hardy.

Is it ok to remove the whole toolbox? Because its quiet useless, the extra button to add a widget is not really needed.

Well, the toolbox makes the whole widget stuff more visible, on the other hand there is not much to be visible anyway, since the extragear plasmoids don't work all that well and aren't installed by default, which leaves the stock plasmoids which are all on IIRC.
I honestly don't know what is best, does someone have a real opinion on that?

I am for removing the Zoom Out (Or "Break Desktop" button, as I've heard it called) for Hardy. The button as of now is useless, and it doesn't look like it will be taken out. It's been here for several 4.0.x releases.

I am not for removing the toolbox entirely. Eventually the toolbox will gain more features, and the zoom will work. Better to get everyone used to the toolbox by the time 4.1 rolls out than to remove it now. (In my opinion) I have personally installed the extragear plasmoids and I love the convenience of being able to throw my mouse up to the corner to get to the add widgets dialog.

Also, the toolbox is serving a purpose as it is right now. In dashboard view (Crtl + F12) the toolbox is expanded by default, giving the user the choices of opening the add widgets dialog or returning from Dashboard View mode. This is essential for two reasons.

A) The toolbox is the only way to get to the add widgets dialog from dashboard view mode.

and

B) If dashboard view mode is accidentally toggled, it gives the user an easy way to get out.

So please, remove the "Break Desktop" button. But keep the Toolbox for now, it's serving its purpose.
