Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-kde4

If I try to lock the desktop in Plasma (KDE 4 packages from PPA, amd64) I receive an error message telling me something like there is no appropriate greeter plugin configured and that unlocking would be impossible and because of that the desktop will not be locked.

For me this is a no-go bug for switching to KDE 4.

Same problem for me, also using KDE 4 packages from PPA.

I just uncovered the same issue using the KDE 4 packages from PPA as well.

I still can't reproduce. Do you have some special plasma packages installed (e.g. extragear-plasma)?

Actually I have installed the named one. But problem existed before I installed this package. I used RC2 and RC1 before. Perhaps some relict from there?

If you know the file which configures the greeter plugin I will take a look at it ;-)

Google solved the problem. You have to install the package kdm-kde4 to have the greeter plugin configured. I installed this package and now I can lock the screen.

As this is some issue, perhaps add a dependency in kdebase-workspace to kdm-kde4?

This issue is on hold, until kdm-kde4 is in proper shape.

By default kubuntu-kde4-desktop depends on kdm (not kdm-kde4).

Will kdm-kde4 replace kdm (kde3) for hardy ?
If not we have to found an other solution to resolve this problem for hardy...

This bug was fixed in the package kdebase-workspace - 4:4.0.2-0ubuntu6

---------------
kdebase-workspace (4:4.0.2-0ubuntu6) hardy; urgency=low

  * debian/control:
    + Don't exceed 80 characters where possible
+ libplasma1 depends on kdm-kde4 for desktop locking (LP: #183800)
+ systemsettings-kde4 depends on kdebase-workspace-bin as the desktop files
pulled in by libplasma1's dependency on -data need the libs (LP: #199287)
