changed release number: can't be the same as the one for the default branch as the code is a bit different to ensure compatibility on all platforms.

Easier compilation to add or remove Gazebo support: just need to set the environment variable GAZEBO if you want to compile with GAZEBO, and unset it if you don't want to have Gazebo.
