The guide generally looks good to me! Good work! Maybe once it's landed we can file bugs for all the "XXX" sections in there?

A few small notes:

 - second sentence needs a "." at the end
 - bullet points in "Building your software" are mis-formatted
 - "*.tar..." mis-formatted
 - link to "stable release update" documentation
