I recall there was some discussion about this a few years ago. We have a spreadsheet with our "Universe Maintenance" packages, that includes an entry for asterisk:

"History: back in the day (before 2015) Server got asked to suppport this, it wasn't ready. Still it was used for our internal IP phone system. Due to that the agreement was to subscribe to it to watch for bug reports, but not promote it."

However, I don't recall us being tapped for help, and indeed if we were I'm not sure we're all that well suited for it versus any other random package maintainer. That spreadsheet doesn't include a contact, reference, support period, or other info that could give guidance about when the commitment ends.

We also have this document, that lists some of the same packages, and provides more rationale, however asterisk is not included here:

In searching our google docs for 'asterisk' I found this presentation, suggesting that Canonical may have migrated to something else (possibly still asterisk but supported by a 3rd party?)

Unfortunately there's no indication of a contact person, and the document's owner is "Deleted User". However it suggests that IS is the dept in question. So perhaps an IS manager could confirm that our maintenance commitment for asterisk has ended? What do you think about reaching out to fercc17 on Mattermost (or <email address hidden> on email), with Christian CC'd, for confirmation that the expectation from us has ended?
