The hang in $HOME as initially reported (backtrace in my first comment to the merge request) was due to an SVG file which included another SVG file as image:

       xlink:href="file:///Users/suv/drawing-1.svg"

After removing this file from $HOME, the gallery lists all image files from $HOME. The referenced SVG file does exist, and rsvg-view by itself does display the file …

@JazzyNico - any change that you could test the branch/diff on Windows?
