Bug Description

I open up a document with evince and try to print some of the pages to a pdf file. When I select to preview the pages I want to print and then press "print" it does not work - I get a pop up window with "Error opening file "/home/fred/Document/utdata.pdf": Access is denied".

But if I press "print" without going to the preview window it works.

I have a similar problem after the upgrade to 12.04. I can't even print (even if I don't do a preview first) ... but only when I do *some* of the pages, like e.g. just page 1. If I print or preview the entire document, both work fine.

I'm attaching the results of error messages output by the printer diagnostic wizard.

I have an Epson Style NX215 with no special custom drivers which worked out of the box. I tried removing and reisntalling evince, no luck.

Hum, I can't reproduce that issue on precise ... is that specific to some configuration? Does anyone still get it (trying to figure if there is a SRU we should do there)

in fact I get the apparmor warnings so I guess it's an issue, even if in practice there is no user visible issue, the document gets printed

Fredrik Nyqvist (fredrik-nyqvist) wrote :

I still get the issue:

1) Open up a pdf document with evince
2) Select print (Ctrl + p)
3) Select "print to file"
4) In interval; select to print some pages (for example: 8-12)
5) Preview
6) Print document from preview window

I haven't done any specific configuration.

Based on your comments that it is still an issue, I uploaded to precise-proposed. Couldn't test myself for lack of a printer.

Should I test with the solution from  Jamie Strandboge? How can I do that? I don't know if it has been added to the regular updates yet.

Hello Fredrik, or anyone else affected,

Accepted evince into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/3.4.0-0ubuntu1.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

I've done a follow up update to include another trivial fix (update a Replaces version for lucid updates) which include both entries if somebody of the SRU team want to accept the new one (will avoid having to wait another week to get the Replaces fix in)

  * debian/control.in:
    - updated the evince-common replaces on evince, the previous version

should be enough to work with any lucid new revision (lp: #1015737)
