NM indicator does not show VPN submenu or Wireless Networks on login

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

I get similar behaviour but I think it happens to me after suspend/resume. The same workaround (restarting nm-applet) works. Also see bug 42348 which is where I think some others experiencing the same thing as me have ended up.

Since this looks like a different way to trigger the same underlying issue to me, I'm not opening a new bug.

I had filed a bug that is a pretty close match to this one except that I see the VPN Connections main menu entry but when hovering over it the sub-menu items are missing and the only thing visible is a little sliver of the sub-menu. You can see a screenshot attached to this post.

Clayton's screenshot is pretty much exactly what I see.

Clayton's (and Jeff's) dropdown menu doesn't look the same as the one that was described in this report (bug #983583) but the underlying bug could be the same.

Same problem as Clayton here. Running 'killall nm-applet ; nm-applet >/dev/null 2>/dev/null &' fixes it until next suspend.

I had this issue in 12.04 and continue in 12.10. Restarting the applet continues to work as a workaround.

I have the same problem as shown in the screenshot by Clayton. I think it occurs afters suspending and/or hibernating. The command 'killall nm-applet ; nm-applet >/dev/null 2>/dev/null &' indeed fixes the problem.

Same here, Ubuntu 12.04. Some times the dropdown menu is complete, sometimes not. Restarting nm-applet fixes the problem.

Its possible that this bug could be reproduced by making sure an Encrypted keyring is in use. I only have this problem on my machine that prompts my for my keyring password my other machine seem to always show the missing menu items.

I have also been experiencing this identical issue on 13.04 for several months.
In my case the problem exists at startup, even after a clean boot.
Both killing and restarting, and disable/enable networking, resolve the issue until the next reboot

Recently my ATI graphics card failed. I was forced to use the internal Intel graphics controller. NM then started working correctly.
I replaced the card with and Nvidia card, and NM is again messing up.
