Bug Description

Intent: Find the downloads I've recently done with firefox, which I know I can get to via the menu but can never remember the blasted shortcut key, so always go Tools -> Downloads

Open firefox in 12.04
Press alt
Type 'down' (without quotes)

No firefox menu items are shown. See screenshot.

I couldn't even find Downloads in the HUD on my machine the first time I tried, but it did find "View", "Tools", and "History" when I entered 'dow' in the search box. Then my global menu vanished, so I closed and restarted Firefox. This time, it correctly found Downloads when I entered 'dow', but as Alan Pope stated in comment #2, 'down' makes the option go away again.

I find that if I open a menubar item, Firefox commands start appearing in the HUD (same for Thunderbird). However, the actual menubar item headers (eg File, Edit, View, etc) DO display from the get go. Maybe XUL is broadcasting its DBus menus in a lazy manner?

This bug was fixed in the package indicator-appmenu - 0.3.94-0ubuntu4

---------------
indicator-appmenu (0.3.94-0ubuntu4) precise; urgency=low

  * Rebase on desrt's r238, including:
    - support for xul applications in the hud (lp: #921231)
    - should fix an hud-service assertion error (lp: #955937)
  * debian/control:
    - build depends on vala for hud-gtk
  * debian/indicator-appmenu-tools.install:
    - install hud-gtk with the tools
