Bug Description

[FEISTY]

mplayer is not compiled with mp3 support , so it plays only noises when listenint to an mp3 or watching a movie with mp3 encoded audio

the error shown by mplayer is :

Requested audio codec family
[mp3] (afm=mp3lib) not available.
Enable it at compilation

Reproducibility: always, just use Mplayer GUI to listen an mp3 file or listen to an mp3 encoded audio of a movie.

Enable it at compilation.
Opening audio decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg/libavcodec audio decoders
AUDIO: 44100 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 128.0 kbit/9.07% (ratio: 16000->176400)
Selected audio codec: [ffmp3] afm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg MPEG layer-3 audio decoder)

Oops, I missed this when I tested my build because I had ffmpeg installed. I didn't notice the mp3lib error.

mplayer-nogui_1.0~rc1-0ubuntu3_i386 still won't play an mp3 stream for me. It doesn't throw out constant errors like the ubuntu2 version did, and it says:

Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 128.0 kbit/8.33% (ratio: 16000->192000)
Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)

But it just plays (seemingly non-random) noise.

Solution seems to be simple: configure with --disable-mp3lib. On my system, it plays mp3 files just fine after compiling with that. I had ffmpeg installed, but even after removing it (I even made sure libavcodec and libavformat were removed, too), mp3 playback still works. Am I missing something?
