synaptic fails to start from unity launcher

Bug Description
after the latest update (changelog talks about switching from gksu to -pkexec for authentification) synaptic doesn't start from the unity launcher. Starting in a terminal with "gksu synaptic" works fine.
Note, this is serious when update-manager is also out of commission!

Do you get an error message if you try launching "synaptic-pkexec" from the command line?
What about if you try launching "pkexec synaptic" from the command line?
