Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-dev-tools

This is my first time using submittodebian but it seems that it needs a working postfix configuration to send the messages. Eventhough the tool reports that the mail has been sent, in /var/mail I can see errors that this is not the case.
submittodebian should inform of this.

Actually, it doesn't. It shells out to reportbug, which doesn't need a local MTA to operate, see /usr/share/doc/reportbug/README.Users.gz

Maybe submittodebian should tell the user this, if there isn't a ~/.reportbugrc ?

well I don't have a ~./reportbug. Besides I am confused about what steps I have to follow to get submittodebian or reportbug to send the emails. I would be grateful for your help.

Create a ~/.reportbugrc with the following contents:

smtphost reportbug.debian.org:587
header "X-Debbugs-CC: your.email@address"
no-cc

Then it should work. I'll see about making submittodebian create such a configuration automatically.
