Bug Description

Every time a package fails to install via update-manager, *two* apport prompts are generated: one for the package failure, which results in a useful bug report; and one for aptdaemon, which "crashes" when dpkg returns an error.

The latter should definitely not result in triggering apport.

This is not a problem with aptdaemon but a dpkg error, which means a failure in a package install.
I'm setting to High and targeting to Oneiric because all kind of error are aggregated here and it hides the real failure. Furthermore the real cause of the error is lost.

Just a guess but I would try and link this and bug #804709 together.

The problem I was having was installing the ATI driver from additional drivers, which would crash jockey and I think that it is also causing apt-daemon to crash as well.

How best can we confirm what the real cause of the error is?
