I also have a similar issue with maverick and the latest upgrade to KDE SC 4.6.1 a few
days ago. Here is what I observed :

When there are new upgrades available, the notification icon shows
up and I click on it. Quite usual.

However, when the application windows is displayed, it does not
take my (default) theme into account. It's displayed with the old
QT windows-like style.

Launching kpackagekit from the menus : everything ok
Launching it from the command line : ok
Launching it from the command line with sudo : same bad display
Launching it from the command line with kdesudo : ok

Unfortunately I don't have any screenshot since I applied upgrades.

Usually it looks like this on my computer (launched through menu) but is really ugly when launched through update notifier.

Mcguire, yes, but without the dark background color.

Same issue here, but it seems it is not only related to kpackagekit: Every application started with kdesudo or sudo will be displayed in the ugly old QT style.

This bug was fixed in the package kpackagekit - 0.6.3.3-0ubuntu2

---------------
kpackagekit (0.6.3.3-0ubuntu2) natty; urgency=low

  * Add kubuntu_08_ktoolinvocation.diff to make applications launched from the
update icon properly themed. (LP: #707916)
  * Enable parallel building.

Can this be backported to maverick (kubuntu-ppa)?

Actually I think this fix isn't necessary.

Could you please check if $HOME/.config/Trolltech.conf contains a line like this:
4.7\libraryPath=

Yes, I have this line in my Trolltech.conf. Should I remove it ?

Yes. I wonder which application added it.

Hi, this fix fixes half of the problem actually.
If you open a running transaction from the tray icon it will not be themed http://wstaw.org/m/2011/03/28/plasma-desktopOD1804.jpg
I have no clue yet why this happened...
And most funny cause apps like kmix should have the same problem...
