This bug report shows that you have installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, which ships with grub2 by default, but you have removed it in favor of grub1 without configuring this boot loader. You either need to configure grub1 for your use, or you need to reinstall grub2 by running: 'sudo apt-get install grub-pc'.
