Bug Description

In Maverick, the kubuntu-desktop metapackage does not seem to depend on polkit-kde-1. As a result, I encountered several authentication issues (kpackagekit, qapt-batch) until I realized that this package was missing.

I was using ubuntu-desktop and decided to give kubuntu a try simply by typing:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

It installed KDE but not polkit-kde-1 and thus the system was not entirely usable. I believe that a package dependency should be added.

It's on the CD (grep http://releases.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/maverick/kubuntu-10.10-rc-desktop-amd64.manifest)

It gets installed by kdebase-workspace-bin which Recommends: polkit-kde-1 | policykit-1-gnome so maybe you already had policykit-1-gnome installed?

It should still work with policykit-1-gnome installed but maybe there are problems there, it won't be much tested.

Yes, since I switched from gnome, I already had policykit-1-gnome installed when installing kubuntu-desktop.

What happens when you install a package using KPackageKit with only policykit-1-gnome installed?

It refuses to install the packages saying that I failed to authenticate (but it did not ask me to authenticate).

So we probably want to remove the option for recommending policykit-1-gnome as a quick fix
