Looking at the powerpc linux-image package (the equivalent provide the ibmasm module on i386 and amd64 architectures) I can't find any support for ibmasm in the kernel, i.e. no module for this architecture.

This would explain the error messages that you have seen during the installation of ibmasm-utils.

The ibmasm module depends on a x86 architecture so is not supported by the kernel on powerpc.

The ibmasm-utils package should be updated to reflect this dependency in the underlying module as it currently supports 'any' architecture.
