Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

I bought a cheapo OKI Data Corp B410 USB/Parallel printer which is detected under Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid, but it prompts me for a driver. It seems we don't ship the right driver for this printer. I extracted the PPD from the Mac OSX driver and went through the prompts in the add printer wizard on Ubuntu to add the PPD file to my 10.04 system. I then printed a test page which came out fine first time.

It looks like a fairly generic PCL printer.

I have attached the PPD to this bug report in the hope it can be included in Ubuntu or whatever config is required in Ubuntu to make this work can be done.

The PPD uses the filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertohp, so it should even work, as this filter is part of the "cups" package.

Please follow the instructions of the sections "CUPS error_log" and "USB printer" on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems. Thanks.

Same experience as Alan on 10.04 LTS. Using the attached PPD worked fine.

Sprry I did not see that the printer worked fine for you with the attached PPD file. So the attached files were not needed. The PPD uses a generic PCL 5e driver which is part of the CUPS package. It has nothing specific for your printer model, it simp[ly does PCL 5e. So I will add your printer as a PCL 5e printer to the OpenPrinting database and then in one of the next foomatic-db packages for Maverick this printer will be explicitly supported.

Updated upstream in BZR repository of foomatic-db. You will find the printer on the OpenPrinting web site now. It is even capable of PCL 6/XL ("pxlmono" driver), according to the "usb_printerid" output which you have attached.

Thank you for the contribution. Another printer which will "Plug'n'Print" in future Linux distributions.
