New libcairo2-1.9.10-1 fails to render correctly

Bug Description

Today's update causes incorrect rendering of thumbnails.

Appearance properties > Background
-----------------------------------------------
Backgrund thumbnails do not show up correctly. Most of them are not visible.

Appearance properties > Background > Add new background
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Backgrund thumbnails in list do not show up correctly. Most of them are not visible.

There are probably more cases.

Prerequities:
Maverick, normal installation, no PPA such as xorg-edgers, ...

Reason:
Upgrade of libcairo to version 1.9.10-1

Verified:
On two machines

Workaround:
Downgrade of libcairo to version 1.8.10-4ubuntu1
