Bug Description

Binary package hint: telepathy-gabble

Hi, our jabber file proxy (proxy.schokokeks.org) was part of telepathy-gabble source without our knowledge. Due to a serious bug within telepathy (#487313) this causes several connections per minute to our server.

We were never asked for our approval of our servers being added to telepathy. It has now been removed:
http://git.collabora.co.uk/?p=user/sjoerd/telepathy-gabble.git;a=commitdiff;h=7e3a2fecb0bce771257d83733630a2a150ad070b

I want to ask that you remove our servers and that you deploy that change also to your stable tree.

The following patch (backported from upstream git) removes 2 servers for which their admins asked us for removal. It also fixes fd.o #21151 which should drastically reduce the number of queries sent to proxies.

Don't be afraid by the size of the patch, changes in the code are trivial, most of the patch is a unit test.

Accepted telepathy-gabble into karmic-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Can you please push this to karmic? As I said above, this causes several connections per minute on our servers and eating our ressources, it's been nearly a month since my report, I don't want to wait for that till the release of lucid. "urgency=low" makes me feel you don't care much.

Note that telepathy-gabble 0.8.9 has the proper fix for this issue as it removes all the hardcoded proxies. See https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/telepathy-gabble/+bug/494591

I don't know if I'm getting something wrong here, but I just tried downloading
the latest telepathy-gabble package from packages.ubuntu.com and we're still
listed in there.

It takes some two hours to sync to all the mirrors.

It's now been two days and it's only in lucid, not in karmic.

All looks fine here:

telepathy-gabble | 0.8.7-1ubuntu1 | karmic-updates | source, amd64, armel, i386, ia64, lpia, powerpc, sparc
telepathy-gabble | 0.8.7-1ubuntu1 | lucid | source, amd64, armel, i386, ia64, lpia, powerpc, sparc

Perhaps your mirror is currently broken/lagging?
