Wine is weirdly in "Office" department

Bug Description

Binary package hint: wine

Ubuntu 9.10

In the Ubuntu Software Center, Wine is found in the "Office" department. But Wine isn't just about running office applications; it applies just as much to games, for example. It should be in the "System Tools" department.

I don't know whether this is a bug in the wine package itself, or in app-install-data-ubuntu.

It should be in all 3, actually. Due to a missing ; it's not currently in System Tools however.

This bug was fixed in the package app-install-data-ubuntu - 0.10.04.2

---------------
app-install-data-ubuntu (0.10.04.2) lucid; urgency=low

  * menu-data/applications.menu:
    - add a bunch of sub-menus for games
    - do not exclude "games" category in system tools (LP: #473355)

Still a problem with wine 1.0.1-0ubuntu8, app-install-data 0.10.04.7.

What's the problem? Is it wrong that it's in the multiple categories?

The problem is that Wine is present in the Office department when it's obviously not an office application. The same applies to Games.

My original thinking was that someone looking for office applications or games might derive some benefit from seeing Wine there.

I have no problem putting it in a more narrow role later though once Wine becomes installable via prompt after just clicking an exe

Should Wine be removed from the Office and the Games category?

It seems to me that if Wine is in any application category at all (rather than being, say, a System Settings panel), it should be in "System Tools".

Microsoft Office applications should be in Office, and any Windows games should be in Games, but not Wine itself.

For Natty I'm going to put Wine into just System but put winetricks into Games/Office (winetricks is a tool for installing MS Office and various games)

Thank you. Perhaps for Ocelot we can investigate integrating winetricks into USC.
