Appeared for me today in Karmic when checking the box that was something like "Make available to all users" in the wireless settings tab.

Edit Connections > Wireless > Edit > (checkbox lower left) > Apply
PolicyKit asked to authenticate. After I did it crashed.

Now I can no longer click the Edit button without getting the same error Mike Basinger reports.

Same happens to me as Jordi Rovira i Bonet said. Then i tried to edit connection again but this time it gave me "Method "GetSecrets" with signature "sasb" on interface "org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerSettings.Connection" doesn't exist" error. I deleted the connection and this time it went normal it did not gave me "GetSecrets" related error but clicking the apply button crashed the applet again.

Just ignore the previous post. I disabled IBUS but it stills crashing. In my case i want to edit auto discovered wireless connection to change dns settings. I changed IPv4 Settings -> Automatic (DHCP) to Automatic (DHCP) adresses only and entered new dns then hit apply. When i reopened nm-connection-editor all changes lost. Also if checked Available to all users check box and then hit apply it shows me authorization window i entered my password and it crashed. After that moment it shows "Method "GetSecrets" with signature "sasb" on interface "org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerSettings.Connection" doesn't exist" error if i want to edit same connection again until i delete the connection.

I just got the error after upgrading the network-manager packages and restarting the system.
I clicked on "Available for all users" and "apply". The network disappeared from the list on networks and then it crashed. Network works though.

I updated nm and now the situation is different. When i want to change dns settings same thing happens. All the changes i entered just get lost. I clicked apply to all users check box and application crashed. But after i opened the application at least it did not show me GetSecrets error window. Also i noticed something that it shows wrong tooltip. When cursor is on search domains input box or dns servers input box it always says "IP addresses identify your computer on the network. Click "Add" button to add an ip address".

Happens for me with a fresh install of Karmic from today (with NM package that has the get secrets patch). In my case, I have a wired ethernet connection that is set to automatic (DHCP), and I'm trying to switch to a static IPv4 config. The "available to all users" box is checked for the connection.

Roland Dreier (roland.dreier) wrote :

I also tried unchecking the "available to all users" box and editing the IPv4 info, and also deleting the "Auto eth0" connection and recreating it. I didn't get crashes but I haven't been able to get NM to actually use the static IPv4 info ... it always seems to end up using DHCP.

Peter Belew (peterbe) wrote : Re: [Bug 436109] Re: nm-connection-editor crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_button_set_label()

I ended up having to hand-edit /etc/network/interfaces to provide the
static IP address and default route, also either /etc/resolv.conf or
some config file for the resolvconf file (if that's installed) to make
things work. The NetManager GUI is useless for that, and it should not
be. Plus the actual GUI is done poorly, regardless of functionality.
(fields too small, moving from field to field doesn't work right,
etc.)

Adding the PPA and updating does not fix this for me. However, now the
network settings, including IP, gateway, additional route, etc. are
retained SOMEwhere, so they show up the next time the Network Settings
dialog is run, but they have no effect: nothing shows up in
/etc/network/interfaces, the route does not change, and the IP does
not change.

Also the network manager applet disappeared from the upper panel.

Another issue is that the 'service' program does not work in Karmic,
so I have to explicitly run "/etc/init.d/networking/restart" instead
of "service networking restart". I'll file that as a separate bug.

My criticism of the user interface, regarding tabbing between fields
and size of fields, remains.

Adding the above PPA Network Manager also does not fix my problem of changing from DHCP to Static ip for Eth1. Also nm-applet is not starting on login. This is on a clean install of the RC desktop ISO.
