Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

The ubuntuone-client package needs a Beta Freeze exception in order to provide users a way to access the ubuntuone-client preferences when the applet is hidden (by default). The change will entail adding a menu item to System->Preferences to access the Ubuntu One preferences, which will replace the existing preferences UI, which is only available by right-clicking on the Ubuntu One applet.

Changed this to be a BetaFreeze exception as this is not going to be done in time for the deadline.

Wasn't the original idea to put that into the nautilus extension?

Also, I think this needs some more cleanup. UbuntuOne already has a menu item in Applications -> Internet, which seems to do nothing at all. Could this be used for the preferences dialog? I don't want to have two UbuntuOne menu entries, especially not if one doesn't do anything visible.

Thanks!

Martin,

The menu item in Applications->Internet launches the client so that is it's purpose. It is visible to the user initially by launching the ubuntuone-client-applet. By default, the applet will disappear after a short period of inactivity. The user can change this preference currently by right-clicking on the applet, selecting preferences, and changing the applet to always be visible. We want to make the preferences to always be available to the user, no matter if they have the applet showing or not.

Thanks!

Josh

Ah, so it's doing nothing for me because it's already started with the
session?

I don't think this makes a lot of sense to people to be honest.
Start/Stop is already provided in the nautilus extension, it usually
is started automatically, and for the first time setup you probably
want a real dialog, similar to the one you are just about to add.

Yes, that makes sense, and should probably go to System -> Prefs, as
you proposed.

Martin, the linked branch has the changes. I'd like to get it landed and in a release for beta, but we obviously can't until it's approved. Thanks!

OK for splitting out the preferences into its own program/menu entry. Bit late for Karmic beta, but it can still land afterwards.

However, nack for introducing another menu entry without killing the rather useless one in Apps -> Internet. Why can't this be cleaned up?

So just for the record, getting rid of the Apps->Internet thing is independent from the new prefs dialog, and can also happen post-beta. So no need to block this update.
