Please update Inkscape package to new 0.47pre3 version - lots of bugs (at least 80) are fixed in this release since 0.47pre1, which is currently in Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic". Inkscape developers are "hoping that this is the FINAL pre-release of Inkscape". For list of fixed bugs look at
