Bug Description
The open animation for windows when compiz is on is too intrusive.
When a window opens it takes up the whole screen and zooms 'out' to the normal position. Because the whole screen 'flashes' the user is startled which makes for an uncomfortable experience.
This could be fixed by making the window come from behind the screen instead of the front. This can be done by setting the Away Position (I do this in CompizConfig Settings Manager) for Glide 1 from 1.0 to something below zero. I tend to use settings which make the Glide animations (1 and 2) less funky by setting the Away Positions to -0.2.

Very good call, this is a perfect example of a paper cut.
Setting Open and Close animations to Glide 2 makes windows approach the screen from the horizon when they open, and recede into the horizon when they close. This creates a very nice symmetry, as the windows come from and return to the same point. Using Glide 1 for Open gives the feeling that the window is coming from behind your head, and leaving off into the distance on Close. Glide 1 also creates a fullscreen flash, you're absolutely right to point that out.
