Very good call, this is a perfect example of a paper cut.
Setting Open and Close animations to Glide 2 makes windows approach the screen from the horizon when they open, and recede into the horizon when they close. This creates a very nice symmetry, as the windows come from and return to the same point. Using Glide 1 for Open gives the feeling that the window is coming from behind your head, and leaving off into the distance on Close. Glide 1 also creates a fullscreen flash, you're absolutely right to point that out.
