Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Hi!
We have translated the asturian translation for the debian installer.
Please, can you update the official Ubuntu installer with this language for Jaunty?
THANKS! and happy new year :)

We translated for the installer:
https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+source/debian-installer/+pots/debian-installer
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+source/debian-installer/+pots/help/ast/+translate
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+source/ubiquity/+pots/ubiquity/ast/+translate
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+source/gfxboot-theme-ubuntu/+pots/bootloader/ast/+translate
Do we need any more?

You'll have to get these translations into Debian first. The installer is special and I don't accept translations only in Ubuntu for it (because they are a huge amount of work to update). Please work through the processes in http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/doc/i18n/ and come back when you've finished.

Hi Colin.
The asturian language is registed in Debian Installer ;)

How can I import translations from Launchpad to Debian installer?
Here is 10 files, but Launchpad has 1 file (debian-installer) :O

Thanks very much!

It'll happen once we sync source packages from Debian that are built with Asturian translations. Due to Lenny being in freeze, this may not be in time for Jaunty, but will happen in the ordinary course of events (albeit slowly).

Hi Colin ;)
We have complete Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4.
And the next week, we will finish the level 5 in the upstream.
Can you then update the asturian language for the Ubuntu debian-installer?
Thanks very much! :)
Cheers.
Marcos.

Sorry, I know this is probably awkward for you and not entirely what you wanted. We're slightly stymied by release schedules here and the difficulty of manually merging translations for 50+ packages. Although I know it isn't perfect, it's really a lot more practical to let them flow in naturally with everything else.

(Code ast).

Level 3: Asturian not exist for NSIS, because Windows hasn't the asturian code. Then I can't upload win32-loader :(
Level 5: Waiting by the import of newt.

When you can and it can be possible, please, update the Ubuntu instaler :D
Thanks very much Colin!

Si tu fueras tan amable de explicarme, lo anteriormente indicado te lo agradeceria, así como tambien lo pasos a seguir en la instalación. gracias

We're merging current installer code into Karmic now, and I just uploaded the change that activates Asturian in the language chooser. You should see initial results from this in Karmic Alpha 1.

I reopen this bug because the alpha1 hasn't the Asturian. What do you think about it (the reason)? :)

If I can't open this bug again, sorry very much and say me, and I will change again to Fix Released :$
Thanks very much for your work Colin!

It isn't really all that helpful to keep on reopening this bug any time there's a problem - it would be easier to manage if you filed fresh bug reports about specific issues. In this case, the problem is just in the CD boot loader.

In this case, I've opened a task on gfxboot-theme-ubuntu for this; it should be trivial to fix.

Actually it's a little bit non-trivial. With the new languages that have now been added, the language list overflows the screen and gfxboot throws a fit. I have some ideas for how to deal with this (mainly making it possible to have non-homogeneous column widths), but they'll take a little while. In the meantime, just tell the boot loader to boot in English and the installer will prompt you again for a language, this time including Asturian.

"Fix Committed" is not the same as "Fix Released". "Fix Committed" means
that I've committed the fix to revision control; I didn't upload because
by the time I had a fix we were already in freeze for Alpha 2 and I
considered it too risky.

This bug was fixed in the package gfxboot-theme-ubuntu - 0.8.1

---------------
gfxboot-theme-ubuntu (0.8.1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Make menu columns variable-width, to make it easier to fit more
languages and keymaps onto the screen.
  * Update langlist from langnames.inc, forgotten in 0.8.0 (LP: #311699).
  * Sort Norwegian Bokmål and Norwegian Nynorsk next to each other, as if
their language code were 'no' (LP: #40144).

Hi Colin.
The asturian language appears in the first menu.
But if it is selected, nothing happens, the main menu appears in English, and when Ubuntu starts up everything is in English.
Can you check please?
Thank you very much!!! ;)

Hello.
I did more tests.
- The menu will always appear in English.
- The LiveCD (first option in the main menu) is in English.
- The direct installer (second option in the main menu) has very little in Asturian.
- Once installed Ubuntu appears in Asturian.
Best regards.
