Bug Description

Hi,

libv4l 0.5.7 fixes a serious bug (a missing parameter to a syscall) and also adds debug messages (still need to be turned on explicitely) and handles more error cases.

It was tested from my ppa and confirmed to fix at least one case where cheese wouldn't work with 0.5.6.

Upstream changelog:
libv4l-0.5.7
------------
* Fix a nasty (and stupid) bug in the special try_fmt handling for UVC cams
* Add some more verbose logging of various calls when asking libv4l to log
calls to a file, to assist in (future) debugging

bug #286070#c15 is where this improvement was reported.

Bye

Hi, I'm a Cheese developer,
Recently we had several (I'd say one per week, but sometimes even more) bug reports on bugzilla.gnome.org from Ubuntu Intrepid users all more or less caused by libv4l 0.5.6.
All users reported Cheese working again after upgrading to 0.5.7 from Loic's PPA (and, of course, upgrading kernel from proposed but that's another bug).

So, did anyone already look into this? Is there a way to speed up the SRU process? After all you just approved an SRU from 0.5.0 to 0.5.6... I don't think pushing it a little further would cause any damage (indeed it will at least make uvcvideo webcams work again with cheese).

Just as a reference consider taking a look at http://freshmeat.net/redir/libv4l/76006/url_changelog/marc.info where the author strongly suggests an upgrade ("every one is urged to
upgrade to 0.5.7 asap!")

Thank you,
Filippo

I tested libv4l 0.5.7-1~intrepid1 from intrepid-proposed with cheese (took a couple of pictures, used effects, recorded a video) and with camorama which needs a manual LD_PRELOAD and both worked as good as before.

Using the test in multimedia selector for built in webcam, switched on cam but did not display image.

Multimedia selector became unresposive on clicking ok.

Camera is not working in Empathy, but is ok in Skype and kdenlive.

Reverting to version 0.5.601~intrepid1 resolved the issue.

I am running an a Dell studio 17
