Bug Description

I am using Ubuntu Jaunty. Libnotify was updated today, and now the preferences menu has a "pop-up notifications" entry that lets you choose the theme and location of notifications.

I think the preferences menu is crammed enough as is, and such small details should be hidden from the average user.

Thank you for your bug report. I agree that it seems a little overkill to have a menu icon for a capplet that has 2 trivial options. Perhaps it could be integrated as a tab in the Appearances capplet?

That would be a fine solution to me.

We do not need a "Theme" selection for each little applet, it should just follow the system theme. It is also not so important to be able to customize the position. This is contradictory to Gnome's ideals of simplicity and lack of useless options. So please just get rid of it, before thinking of adding it to Appearance.

This bug was fixed in the package notification-daemon - 0.4.0-0ubuntu3

---------------
notification-daemon (0.4.0-0ubuntu3) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Add 08_hide_properties_desktop.patch: Do not display
notification-properties in the menu by default; it's not worth spending a
menu item for this small thing, users can reenable it with alacarte, and
it doesn't work for notify-osd at all. (LP: #301766, #332014)

This was a terrible idea to remove the customization and preferences feature.

I have a netbook and the notifications take up WAY too much space on the screen.

A simple menu to make them smaller would have been a great idea. It's a shame to see a useful feature removed because "the preferences menu was crammed."

I'm pretty sure others have the same problem with this... And it's a shame, since I know ubuntu is trying to appeal to the netbook market.

Could you please tell me how to "reenable it with alacarte?" Is alacarte a program or "À la carte". If it is À la carte, then, what is the name of the package?
