This bug was fixed in the package gdm - 2.20.7-0ubuntu4

---------------
gdm (2.20.7-0ubuntu4) intrepid; urgency=low

  * debian/gdm.init:
    - make gdm.init honor the 'text' kernel commandline option and
      do not start gdm if that is given (LP: #256125)

grep "text" is a little greedy, expect fun when some option like "mykernel=justextreme" shows up.

Here's a patch if that would help. I can not find a recent bzr tree on https://code.edge.launchpad.net/gdm Should I rather make a debdiff? Anyway, much ado for one extra character :)
