Bug Description

Binary package hint: miro

In Gutsy (Miro 0.9.8.1-0ubuntu5) or Hardy (1.1.2-0ubuntu2), the Gnome screensaver is not disabled when playing videos in fullscreen.
I also tried Miro 1.2 from pculture ubuntu repositories.

There is a patch upstream :

Thank you for your bug report. As you reported, there seems to be a fix for that issue but the developer removed it (maybe temporarly) from trunk: https://develop.participatoryculture.org/trac/democracy/changeset/6432. Please update your bugreport, if the fix is included in the code.

This fix had to be removed because it was causing a different problem. Surely any contributers help in resolving the issue would be appreciated.

This bug was fixed in the package miro - 1.2.6-0ubuntu1

---------------
miro (1.2.6-0ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #258401,#213667)
  * Merge from Debian first (LP: #255261)
    + New Ubuntu changes:
      - Depend on python-gnome2-extras rather than python-gtkmozembed
  * Drop unnecessary democracyplayer-data transitional package (LP: #242968)
  * debian/patches/91_fix_movie_dir_selector
    + Drop; this worked around a GTK+ bug which has been fixed
  * debian/patches/81_inhibit_gnome_screensaver
    + Inhibit GNOME Screensaver when playing fullscreen video. (LP: #207794)
      Patch based on patch from upstream trac:
      http://bugzilla.pculture.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3067
  * debian/rules
    + Add more detritus to the clean target

I always had this problem with miro not diabling the screensaver... Even to date running Miro 1.2.8-0pcf2

Linux psyserveftp 2.6.24-21-generic #1 SMP Tue Oct 21 23:09:30 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I use a python script workaround that can be used to "wrap" any application (Miro included) that causes problems not stopping gnome-screensaver and wrote a quick how-to on using it at:

http://stinker.serveftp.net:8000/gscreensaver.html

Maybe it worked correctly at one point in time, or it regressed?

This works for GNOME Screensaver (only) in the Ubuntu packages (only).
Upstream wants a more general solution, but I decided that inhibiting
the gnome screensaver is useful enough to justify a patch (which is on
upstream trac, too).

How about a backport to Hardy?

I still have this screensaver issue. Any news concerning this behaviour?
Using Miro (2.5.3) @ Ubuntu 9.10.

This has been fixed for gnome-screensaver, but not all screensavers yet apparently which is why the upstream bug is still open.
