Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?

python-gnome2-desktop is often installed, so not all that many people are probably hit by this, but it seems to still be an issue. Also as this package is only in Ubuntu and not Debian, it hasn't been touched in awhile and could use a little love getting up to standards. I'll post a debdiff shortly...

Well here's a minimal diff only adding the dependency. It seems that upstream doesn't really exist anymore, the home page is off line, googling doesn't seem to find anything new either. The Debian ITP. Googling the authors name led me to a LP account though, who I will subscribe to this report.

I figure we go ahead and fix this bug now, and hopefully the author will weigh in on the project. Most of the packaging tasks needed are useless with out an existing upstream (ie adding a watch file, new homepage field in control...).

That should be: "The Debian ITP was withdrawn due to upstream being inactive."

This bug was fixed in the package webboard - 0.2.1-0ubuntu5

---------------
webboard (0.2.1-0ubuntu5) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Add dependency on python-gnome2-desktop since the
panel applet needs the gnomeapplet module. (LP: #206720)
