Still happens after xorg-xserver 2:1.4.1~git20080131-1ubuntu6. Opening menus causes Xorg to hang and eventually crash and restart. Duplicate apport bug LP #209478.

Fair enough. Could be a driver bug, which means we can't fix it.

I can't access the dupes of this bug.

This is on a dell latitude d600 laptop using the free radeon driver, no compiz. This installation was dist-upgraded from gutsy to hardy alpha 5 when it was released. I will try this on a clean install of the current alpha. I was just going to try cleaning configs as well as reinstalling OO.o binaries but I figured I'd try bug reporting first to sort this problem out. Surprisingly, there's not too many "me too's" for this kind of problem.

Open Office is crashing, when scrolling through a file. It is also crashing X. It also crashes when I attempt to save too.

Ubuntu 8.10 is running Open Office 2.4. Above I saw mention of ver. 3.0. Synaptic does not list 3.0. So my crashes are coming after updating 8.04 pre-install.

I resolved this issue by following J.A. Watson's how to replace OpenOffice 2.4 with 3.0, see: http://community.zdnet.co.uk/blog/0,1000000567,10009699o-2000498448b,00.htm#comment20098505. I suppose that the warning that loading apps that are not in sync with Ubuntu applies here. I have not had any issues with OO 3.0.

Thanks TWFJR - your tip solved my issue.. 3.0 looks the same, but feels faster, and so far - bugless.. :)

thanks again

This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
