Ettercap-gtk needs to be launched as root

Binary package hint: ettercap

Ettercap-gtk doesn't function correctly when launched from the menus as they are currently. This is because it is not launched as root. The error (in attached screenshot) appears when selecting network interfaces.

I think gksu "/usr/sbin/ettercap --gtk" is a better choice, since gksudo is a symlink for gksu.

Righto. I assumed they were the same as su/sudo.

Also, it could be worth adding gksu in Recommends (as nmapfe did since 4.20-2).
What about KDE users? I guess they use a different tool than gksu.

ettercap (1:0.7.3-1.2ubuntu3) hardy; urgency=low

  * Run ettercap-gtk as root (gksu).
    Changed files: debian/ettercap.desktop (LP: #199206)
  * Modify Maintainer value to match the DebianMaintainerField
    specification.
  * Clean up some errors picked up by lintian.
    Changed files: debian/rules, debian/control, debian/compat
  * Bumped standards-version to 3.7.3, no changes required.
    Changed files: debian/control
