Bug Description

Hardy doesn't include transitional packages to handle the kernel upgrade path from Dapper.
These include linux-* as well as linux-image-* and linux-restricted-modules-*
* contains the arch, as well as some optional warts on the end.

These should point to identically named packages (linux-, linux-image-, linux-r-m-, simply with -generic instead of the arch (or -server), for the architectures that the generic kernel supports.

As some additional information regarding this bug:

These transitional packages need to be included in the Alternate CD as well, for those without intenet access who are planning on upgrading.

These packages should exist for redundancy (as well as the fact that they just are supposed to be there anyway). In case do-release-upgrade and/or update-manager(-core) fail (or have other bugs associated with them), you'll still be able to upgrade manually and recover the system.

Hi Neal,

My apologies, I was misinformed. I've gone ahead and opened this back up and have assigned to the kernel team. Thanks!
