Bug Description

Gstreamer calculates an ID for Audio CDs and optionally submits it to MusicBrainz.
This enables programs to find the corresponding metadata for a CD on MusicBrainz.

Gstreamer < 1.3.1 doesn't do this correctly for CDs with data tracks, leading to invalid Disc IDs being submitted to the MusicBrainz database.

This is reported upstream in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=708991
and fixed in gstreamer 1.3.1. The corresponding patch is supplied as an attachment here.
Trusty Tahr is using 1.2.x and there is no new release on that branch.
Trusty Tahr is still supported until 2019. It would be really nice if that can be fixed.

The bug surfaces as a problem in Rhythmbox because starting with 2.97 this uses gstreamer for MusicBrainz Disc ID handling.

Not sure why I can't add any version information in the meta info of this bug, but:

This problem only persists in Trusty Tahr (14.04.x) with gst-plugins-base 1.2.x.
All other supported Ubuntu releases already ship a fixed version of gst-plugins-base.

(as closed, since the problem is fixed, just not in Trusty Tahr..)

Hello Johannes, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gst-plugins-base1.0 into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gst-plugins-base1.0/1.2.4-1~ubuntu2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot (crichton) wrote : [gst-plugins-base1.0/trusty] possible regression found

As a part of the Stable Release Updates quality process a search for Launchpad bug reports using the version of gst-plugins-base1.0 from trusty-proposed was performed and bug 1518421 was found. Please investigate this bug report to ensure that a regression will not be created by this SRU. In the event that this is not a regression remove the "verification-failed" tag from this bug report and add the tag "bot-stop-nagging" to bug 1518421 (not this bug). Thanks!

Hm, I was kind of hoping that an actual Trusty user could test this..

Anyways, I used a PC with 2 drives, using one for a Trusty Live DVD to test this.

Opening my "Guano Apes - Don't Give Me Names" CD (having a traling data track with multimedia) in Rhythmbox on a vanilla system didn't find the disc on MusicBrainz.

Installing gstreamer1.0-plugins-base_1.2.4-1~ubuntu2 (updating dependencies automatically) made Rhythmbox find the disc on MusicBrainz.
