Year view has day names too condensed

Not sure if this will be an issue given that high resolution phones may avoid this issue altogether. If it is an issue; I imagine just creating a state that would only display the first two or one letters of the day name.

It's certainly common in the UK to use S M T W T F S, if that's common in other regions then yes, I'd say using single letters is appropriate and desirable.

Just note,

For higher or lower resolution phone, I think it should be taken care by Units.gu(1) and fontSize (currently we are usign small for yearview)

However, issue will be faced when we resize window manually on screen.

We have partially resolved this issue by changing day case to capitalize from uppercase.
and it looks decent on Nexus4 device currently.
